Challenge:
The Ship Caulkers’ Houses represent a vital but largely forgotten piece of pre-Civil War Black history in Baltimore. The challenge was to transform this historical site from a little-known landmark into a compelling brand and narrative that could engage the local community, attract institutional support, and drive restoration efforts. The project required a strategic approach to branding that honored the past while making the story relevant and impactful for modern audiences.
Approach:
Seaberry Design crafted a visual identity from the ground up, using the foundation outline of the original houses as inspiration for the logo. Through in-depth historical research and modern marketing techniques, we developed a brand that bridges past and present. Our work included a refined brand identity, an immersive website, and a strategic marketing plan with airport ads, event banners, and digital outreach—ensuring the Ship Caulkers’ Houses gain the recognition they deserve.
