The Tri-fold and Your Marketing Campaign

A tri-fold brochure is versatile. It can be used as a direct mailer, or a leave behind for sales and lead generation. No wonder it’s the cornerstone of most successful marketing campaigns.

As with any marketing material the purpose of the tri-fold brochure is to grab attention. The design of your brochure should be determined by just whose attention you want to grab. What does your customer need? What’s the best way to attract the type of customer that’s going to buy your product or service? These questions aren’t easy to answer, but here are a few tips that can get you started in the right direction.

The Road Less Taken – A tri-fold that looks like every other tri-fold will not distinguish your business. Be creative, but be sure to consider what your customers want to see. A middle-aged engineer isn’t going to be attracted to the same brochure that a teen skater would. Don’t be afraid to break away from the traditional three-column approach, but be sure you put yourself in your customer’s shoes and design something that they will want to look at.

Separation Anxiety? – The way you separate the information in your brochure is important. It’s a fact that a confusing brochure layout is the quickest way to ensure it gets tossed in the trash. Using creative layouts and fabulous graphics can be a great help. Above all, know your audience. Are they laid back? Do they live in a world where every second counts and there is no time to spare? Are they looking for youthful innovative design, or do they just want to get your message and get out? Take a good look at your clients and organize your information in a way that they would find riveting.

Color Lines – Bright and vivid colors are no doubt attention grabbers. But pay attention to what you’re selling. Colors have different meanings, and often cultural significance. For example, red is a prime color for restaurants and eateries because it reminds people of food. You probably won’t want to use too much red if you’re marketing a Caribbean cruise line that sails in tropical blue waters.
